The album's name comes from a particular type of persecutory delusion that was originally identified in individuals with schizophrenia. In this delusion, individuals believe that some type of highly sophisticated machine being operated by a group of clandestine agents is responsible for some of their thoughts and sensations. A goal of this record is to explore the nature of delusions and paranoia and where they fit in an increasingly dystopian environment.
