A quaint and charming turn based game. It has a distinct board game feel to it. Although daunting at first it is actually one of the easier turn based games to pick up and learn, and it helps that the campaign slowly filters in concepts but it's balanced out well enough to let you commandeer the reins of the game after a period. Plus, even if you're not adept at these games like I am, you can even downgrade the difficulty for an easier experience (or raise it for more challenge).

I like that there's asynchronous email-based multiplayer, which is neat if you don't have enough time to devote to an online session. Hotseat and AI battles allow you to sharpen your skills or have some nice casual games with RL friends in the same house.
