Hextech Rocketbelt (or Protobelt, as I keep calling it by habit) is very similar to Galeforce except it's AP. Galeforce was previously a big favourite mythic of mine for AD Thresh, but it's fallen off for a number of reasons, some of which do NOT apply to Rocketbelt.
Galeforce is fully squishy and expensive, whereas Rocketbelt has some HP and is a bit cheaper. The magic damage of Galeforce also was opposite the AD you were building making penetration harder (which isn't good vs the Jak'Sho and Radiant Virtue tanks especially), and kinda falls off, whereas Rocketbelt not only does magic damage with AP, but also provides magic penetration on purchase of itself, as well as every other finished Legendary item.
The dash on Rocketbelt is arguably better as well, providing AoE (Another weakness of Thresh) for waveclear and damage, and granting movement speed towards enemy champions allowing for very easy Flays to catch opponents. It isn't quite as long a dash as Galeforce but is a tad more versatile thanks to this.
The versatility of Rocketbelt means, unlike Galeforce, you don't have to straight commit to tank items immediately so you don't die at Thresh's low range (or just say heck and go full AD), allowing you to, in theory, build all sorts of items afterwards, from Demonic Embrace, Abyssal mask, Horizon Focus, Nashor's Tooth, to even (very much IN THEORY) Blade of the Ruined King. You can either build for AP burst with it, or just use it's dash utility with a tankier build, or meet in the middle somewhere.

Those are my current thoughts, will update over time as we keep trying AP Thresh!
