Apple’s new Mac computers, powered by their new M1 chip, are launching this week! I’ve been using the new MacBook Pro for about a week, and in this episode I give you a look at just how powerful the M1 MacBook Pro 13-inch laptop can be.
Inside the new MacBook Pro, as well as the new M1 Mac mini and M1 MacBook Air, is Apple’s first ever system on a chip designed specifically for the Mac. They call it the Apple M1, and it brings really incredible performance gains and new capabilities to the Mac. I know so many people are skeptical, but I’ve got to tell you, I spent time looking for ways to trip up the M1 and it’s just a beast.
According to Apple, you’re getting a boost to CPU, graphics, and machine learning with the M1 chip as its key differentiators. For the MacBook Pro, this means an 8 Core CPU that handles heavy workloads almost 3 times faster, an 8 Core GPU with graphics up to 5 times faster, and a 16-core neural engine that makes machine learning tasks up to 11 times faster.
Obviously, there’s a lot of tech speak there, and what really matters is how it works and how it feels when you’re using it. Are things smooth and do you have a sense of speed?
