Apple unveiled details about it's new iPad 2 tablet during a press conference in San Francisco earlier today.  Apple CEO Steve Jobs was on hand to make the announcement.  The iPad 2 will be available on AT&T and Verizon's 3G networks.  It reportedly begin shipping on March 11, 2011. 

Here's what we know about the iPad 2: it's slimmer and lighter than the first-generation iPad.  According to CNET, the iPad 2 is 8.8 mm thick, compared to 13.4 mm in the original.  The iPad 2 weighs in at 1.33 pounds, compared to the original iPad's 1.5 pounds. 

The iPad 2 will also have not one, but two video cameras: one in front and one on the rear of the device, allowing users to take photos, record video and use FaceTime video chat. 

As for price, CNET says the iPad 2's price will be the same as the iPad's: $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model (without 3G).  The 32GB model is listed at $599 on Apple's official website, and the 64GB model is priced at $699.  With 3G, the 16GB model will run $629 based on service from both AT&T and Verizon.  The iPad 2 will be available in both black and white versions. 

In addition, a new iPad polyurethane "Smart Cover" is available in a variety of colors for $39.  Apple describes it as "a thin, durable cover that magnetically aligns" with the iPad 2 "for a perfect fit."  When the cover is on, the iPad goes off - when it opens, the iPad "wakes up."  The cover also doubles as a stand for a keyboard or for the device itself, allowing hands-free viewing of movies or for conferencing with FaceTime.

Apple Insider says the newest iPad will run on a "faster" dual-core A5 processor.  CNET says the processor will "just about double CPU performance and make the graphics speed 9 times faster."
