[APRIL FOOLS] Touhou 18.5 got leaked, including source code. Here's some gameplay.
Danmaku meets open world. That's 18.5 in four words.
The information I got is very interesting. Let me tell you...
So 18.5 already has a name. It will be called Touhou Amanogawa ~ The Endless Skies (in Japanese: 東方天の川 ~ The Endless Skies). As you can see in the video, looks like the game will have an official English release as well, though the localization has not been completed yet. This confirms one of our suspicions as to why Moriya Shrine has its downloads taken down; looks like ZUN has finally opened up to an official English translation for the games.
The story is not yet completely translated to English, so here's the backstory (which Google Translate hopefully got right from its translation of the omake):
Reimu wakes up to see Gensokyo getting invaded by a race of aliens called the Quarg. Somehow, the Quarg has managed to breach the Great Hakurei Barrier. The Gensokyo Sages eventually surrendered (yes, even Yukari for some reason). Meanwhile in desperation Einetei managed to create a time machine. The plan is simple: go back in time and destroy the Quarg before they discover Earth and Gensokyo.
However, something went wrong. Tewi, the troll we all cherish, switched the time machine's mode to "future". So instead of travelling 1000 years to the past, Reimu travelled 1000 years into the future! Whoops, guess she's stuck in the fourth millenium. Or is she? If a time machine can be created in the present she's from, then surely there has to be a time machine in the future. And the game's story starts from here...
Unfortunately I can't show you the intro right now because it crashes the game. Also, spell cards aren't implemented yet, so you only have ofudas for attacking for now.
And yeah, the source code got leaked as well. The leaker published it in GitHub, you will have to look for it yourself. Expect a DMCA soon. To compile it in Linux (yes it officially supports Linux as well!), you will need scons, development headers of libsdl2, libpng, libjpeg, libgl1-mesa, libglew, libopenal, libmad0, and uuid. There are also prebuilt binaries for Windows, macOS, and Linux which you can run without having to compile.
