In early life, Jane Addams Wanted to go to a prestigious women's university so she was like “bye old guy i'm off to pursue a career in medicine!” but her father was not okay with this cause he lost his wife and he wanted to keep his girls close so he said “no go to school with your sisters” So she has energy but she did what her father wanted and that prolly changed the course of her life. She would now stay close to home and go with her father and step mother to where her father would die and in their grief her fam would go to europe where Jane would be appalled to see that The poverty stricken london would let its poor purchase rotten food, “i am appalled to see this” and here as well is where jane tries to seek comfort in religion while she grieves her father's death and is prolly when she gets into the social gospel and whatever, which is an idea that christian morals should be expressed in all aspects of society. Or it was from when she went to a christian university. Prolly that. But whatever after she left england she was still concerned for their well being of the poor. Except now she was worried about the poor in her area. She pondered over what to do over a couple years, even partnering with another lady, Ellen Gates Starr, to come up with a plan. Their ponderings were then brought to an end when someone made an answer for them! A settlement house had opened in london and the excited pair went to visit immediately. They returned home with a new idea. A hull house. In chicago for the immigrants and the poor. The hull house had all sorts amenities, a kindergarten, coffee house, book bindery, and clubs for the public to enjoy. She would live in the hull house for the rest of her life and from her experience she and her hull house would sponsor legislations to abolish child labor, create juvenile courts, make school attendance compulsory, and ensure safe working conditions in factories. In her book she advocates for the public to respect the values of Immigrants and their families and help them to adjust to american society. During World
War I she asked President Woodrow Wilson to Arrange a conference to end hostilities in europe however her please fell on only half sympathetic ears and she used the rest of her energy on encouraging increased food production and aide to the starving in europe. After the War Jane Addams founded the women's International League for Peace and Freedom, an organization that strived to study the cause of war and make them known to help eliminate the causes and make peace.
