One of my favorite games of all time is Contra. I actually prefer the arcade version of this game over the NES/Famicom version, unlike most gamers.
Enjoy this no death aka "No Miss" run. I did't try for score at all in this play-through, as that can get pretty boring to watch. There is a ton of point padding/scraping when playing this game for score; My top score on actual arcade hardware is 2,099,100 and is considered to be the top known western score for the game under "tournament settings", which is one extra life only at 50k points.
Default settings used in this run: medium difficulty, 3 lives to start, extra live at 30k and every 70k points.
