Active speakers can be used for electronic drums, but with some important caveats:

✅ When they're useful:

Band rehearsals or live performances, where high volume is necessary.

When you don't need extreme sound fidelity, just to hear loudness and clarity.

If the active speaker has good bass response, the kick drum will sound fine.

⚠️ Cautions when using an active speaker with electronic drums:

1. Frequency response: Some active speakers are designed for vocals or background music and don't reproduce high-pitched sounds (cymbals) or deep bass (kick drums) well.

2. Tone quality: Snare, hi-hat, and cymbal sounds may sound less defined than with a dedicated monitor.

3. EQ is essential: You can significantly improve the sound with a good adjustment of the speaker's equalizer.

4. Power and Speaker: Choose speakers with 12" or 15" speakers, which can handle the bass of the electronic drums.

🔊 Practical tip:

If you already have an active speaker with at least 12" and 100W RMS or more, test it with the electronic drums. If the sound sounds muddy or too high-pitched, try adjusting the equalizer (cutting highs and mids, and boosting bass).
