Welcome back to Tiny Blue Games, my name is Csaw or Chris, and today we are about GW2's Shadow of The Mad King Event (their Halloween event). I have often been stunned by how beautiful and immersive Guild Wars 2 holidays are, but this year I really started wondering if GW2 events are truly the best amongst most MMORPGs. In this episode of Tiny Talks, sort of a "light" MMO comparison, we will discuss what makes these events so amazing. We will primarily focus on The Shadow of The Mad Kind event, but we will also bring up some other seasonal events as well.
Guild Wars 2 is a very different MMORPG experience and focuses on horizontal progression as opposed to vertical progressions found in may popular MMOs. There are many benefits to this type of progression system, but one of the potential drawbacks is that there aren't obvious reset points for new players to jump in the game. For instance, World of Warcraft (WOW) has a vertical progression system that often resets at the start of a new expansion, which allows new players an entry point to catch up to existing players. Guild Wars 2 doesn't have these reset points, which makes joining the game easy for everyone!
