Nukes have been in every Civilization game. They are super weapons that cause mass destruction, for a price. Are they balanced?

Nuclear weapons are really fun and game changing. You need to have certain things to deploy them, but that's part of good balancing. Once you drop a nuclear weapon, radiation effects the area around it. In Civilization 2 and 6, nuclear weapons also cause global warming, and the melting of the ice caps. What really sucks about nukes is that the AI like, never builds them so there is never any threat of being nuked yourself unless you play multiplayer.
