Let's just start with the title: I decided to name it to such because this is the most accurate naming to what I will actually be playing for you now, my dear viewers :) Heretic in its original form, is pretty rough to play in 2023 and it also looks a bit blocky in software mode and tapping away at it with a keyboard lol. So 'enhanced' means that the game's main (and only) program data file is ran through the best engine interpretation module (in my opinion) - which is DoomsDay Engine. What this does are these things I have noticed (this is not a complete list btw but just my main observations here):
-it smooths out the pixels and makes the graphics nicer - I would say upgrading them to Glide 3DFX -par- quality (in old terms :);
-better gameplay control with mouse aiming possible. I chose it this way and with the auto-aiming off - offering 360 degree of free movement, making it thus similar to Quake (I mean why not, right? hehe);
-smoother in-game movement and of monsters and objects - possible integrated frame rendering interpolation at work here;
-nice and more crispier sound.

I have tried the other alternative - through GZDoom, which is also possible to play through, but although the movement is faster, it's not as smooth as DoomsDay Engine (although it does make your view-movement slower, as I tested this by waving the mouse around on the screen). DDE also makes the game look prettier and more colorful (again, I compared lol, before choosing the best and most suitable engine for my tastes). With GZDoom, mouse movement is instant and the action seems faster on screen. But overall, I just thought DDE was the better choice so I chose that one to go ahead with this game.

However if you don't care much about prettier gfx and smoother gameplay, you can choose GZDoom to play, but I don't think the speed of it matters much when playing this game. GZDoom also has a lot more configuration options to go through before playing, while DDE has a lot less settings - so you will spend a lot more time setting up GZDoom if this is your first time playing with it. Just a heads up, since I already did the comparison for you already ;) So if you want to pick an engine to play this game with, you know how they are by now because I just told you hehe

Okay.. so technicalities aside and moving on to the game now. What can I say? Possibly the best 3d game on Earth ever made. Blazing out from 1994 and utilizing a modified in-house game engine licensed and bought from id Software itself - it's an enhanced Doom engine put at work here :) In my opinion, this game is better than Doom and I do like it more. Now this is subjective and possibly a matter of preference, but my reasoning is mainly because each level in Heretic is !awesome! - unlike in Doom, where a bunch of levels are not really that great and not that fun to get through (although this greatly improved in Doom 2 however, where each level is pretty great). There are more variety of weapons, monsters and items present in this game, all of which offers more fun combinations to play with. In my opinion it's just a superior game.

So Raven Software (the company behind this game), created a real gem here - one that gets 12/10 gems from me as a -Stellar- milestone in gaming and one of the best and most fun 3d games ever made. It is Legendary - yes I think it really is. And it's also one of my favorite games - ever :) Good day now :o)
