Gameplay Mechanics
Difficulty:
The difficulty has been unlocked, whereby you’re able to change this to your own personal preference. Note that the balance is (and will be) made for Studio Wildcard’s Official difficulty.
Player:
You can reach level 150 and obtain Engram Points until level 100. You can change these settings via your configuration settings to your own preference.
Progression:
You can no longer attack every creature at random. You’ll need extensive methods, tactics and patience to overcome and progress further towards the end-game goal.
Quality:
Quality levels of items and blueprints have been redone. The following definitions now apply to all different types of qualities in Extinction:
Lv 0 : Common
Lv 1 : Uncommon
Lv 2 : Rare
Lv 3 : Epic
Lv 4 : Legendary
Lv 5 : Artifact
Creature Enhancement:
Most creatures are now more suitable to their designated role. Additional attacks, animations and effects have been added.
Creature Names:
All creatures use their complete name and more designated names. This way it’s more friendly for all players (incl. colorblind people).
Taming:
Additional taming methods have been implemented. These range from K.O. taming, passive taming and item taming. Make sure you’re prepared for taming the right creature!
Babies:
Instead of wild baby eggs & nest, wild babies roam next to their parents. Note that they no longer provide you with Raw Prime Meat when harvested.
Spawn Zones:
The Island, The Center and The Scorched Earth have all been adjusted with the additional creatures provided by Extinction. Default spawn zones for The Island & The Center have also been redone to include the creatures of the S.E. as well.
Extinction introduces varies new mechanics, creatures, items and challenges in one package. It’s purpose is to expand the already vast game of Ark with an extra progressive touch. It’s punishing for beginning players, and challenging for veterans. It uses it’s own learning curve, which is dependent on your effort and tactics used in varies scenario’s you will encounter.
Don’t expect that Extinction will spawn tons of new creatures into the excisting Ark, like what many other mods are trying to achieve. It’s purpose is not to have the most creatures, but to extend the excisting gameplay for an enhanced PvE experience. There are NPC’s added for those that seek a certain purpose of PvP, but note that PvP is not an optimization goal.
It can be used for a single player experience, but the challenge will be harder, then in comparison with a multiplayer experience. The balance has been optimized for Studio Wildcard’s official difficulty, so decreasing/increasing it will have unsupported effects.
Depending on your playstyle, it’s recommended to use official multipliers for the best experience. Higher values will let you (or your players) rush through the content quicker, so take this into consideration when setting up your session/server.
Additional content will be added over time, which will increase the general file size of the mod. Also, as Ark: Survival Evolved changes over time, so will this mod whereby it may occur that you can lose progression with specific updates. This cannot be avoided, so if this is not acceptable for you, then it’s not recommended to use this mod.
