Nian is a limited 6 star defender that focuses on defense of herself or other allies depending on the skills used. Over all Nian plays similarly to Cuora but with nearly 1,000 extra max hp (at E2 high level for example) and has much higher attack so she can deal at least some damage to weaker enemies. Her skill 3 is where she gets different though with instead buffing other allies defense and gives +1 block which is very effective with AoE guard heavy teams or for Aak strategies.

So is Nian worth the orundum pull? I would say absolutely but at the same time even being a limited operator (only at specific banners) I wouldn't say she is a must have so if you don't have the orundum or are saving for a specific operator in the future other defenders while maybe not quite as good as Nian as the physical damage tanking role can still do well enough.
