Arms (Nintendo Switch) Game Review | 8-Bit Eric
This is a review of Arms for the Nintendo Switch by 8-Bit Eric. Arms is a brand new fighting game that features characters such as Spring Man and Ribbon girl as they compete to be the best!
The challenge of Arms is pretty high, I for the life of me, could barely make it out of some battles alive. The computer is pretty brutal, so you will have to be very strategic in how you use your blocks, because they can still grab you, your arms will also become disabled if they block any of your hits.
The game says the key to winning is dashing and jumping, initially to me it seemed like an over all button masher. That’s not knocking the game at all, I did find it fun to play, eventually i learned the strategy, and how to do things such as pull back punches, and even turn punches in mid movement, there is also a meter that feels up that allows you to unleash a fury of attacks at your opponents.
During battle you will find four items that drop in, a green tube that provides health, a yellow tube that provides energy to unleash your fury faster, and two bombs that damage or disable you. Also, very important is whenever you have saved up enough coins, to go to the get arms mode and play the mini game, there are a ton of arms that each have unique features and abilities, and the better arms you get the better you will fare in grand prix.
Grand Prix is for 1-2 players, it is the main story mode of the game. It has you play in 10 matches. Ranked matches unlock after you complete Grand Prix at difficulty setting 4, and it took me a while to beat Grand Prix at this setting.
There are also other match types in addition to the average Arms battle. Every few fights you might be playing either volleyball mode, hoops, or skill shot. Volleyball mode is just that, except instead of playing with a volleyball you are playing with an exploding bomb, you must try to not let the bomb land on your side, and knock it over to score points. You are also on a timer. It is a neat little side game.
In Hoops, however, when you throw your opponent, they will always land in the exact same spot: just beneath the hoop. This makes it super easy to grab your opponent just as they get back up, preventing them from throwing a counter-punch
Skill shot is a match that has targets randomly popping up during, the objective is to score the most points during the time limit, as well as avoid getting attacked by your opponent.
Versus mode on the main menu allows you to access all sorts of modes either against computer or local-couch coop, these include 1vs1 battles , v-ball, hoops, skill shot, but also team fight which is a 2 on 2 battle that can get pretty crazy, seriously it is hard to keep track of who is attacking who in these but it is very fun!
I am honestly not a big fan of the motion controls. I prefer using the pro controller, it just seems much more accessible to me.
I don’t hold anything against the motion controls, they weren’t mindless waggling like old wii controls, I just prefer to have something a bit more old school.
