Army's Mechanical Third Arm Is Straight Out of ‘Aliens’
The Army Research Laboratory is working on a passive mechanical appendage.
This third arm is a carbon fiber exoskeleton that attaches to a soldier's vest and a gun's picatinny rail. The device weighs around four pounds and is capable of supporting up to 20 pounds. It could be used to redirect gun recoil and a soldier's combat weight.
