80Note I did not make this video. Taken from that one NHL site. But doesnt look like anyone else was going to put it up, so I took the trouble myself of converting it and putting it to youtube shrug. I wish I could get all those larionov videos from his one wine site. But I guess they were all taken down. To bad....
Anyway I think its great, that one of the things they even talk about in this video is irbes splits.. They may as well just call it "THE SPLITS"... And when ever that comes up irbe must come to mind. Truely no one did it better. I mean irbe gets down low for them. REAL FUCKING LOW. Like he might need help getting back up low. Might not be having kids anymore low.
In the sake of purely for fun, and making the game look "fun" to say, I dont think there was any save irbe was not capable of making look awesome. I think the only thing a casual fan could knock against irbe purely again in terms of fun, is he didnt lend himself to outrageous looking glove saves, which clichely seem to be a thing that is popular for being a "cool looking save". Irbes pad stack wasnt the most beautiful in the bizz ethier, but maybe that wasnt his fault just his stature. It was just sorta there. But anything else, split save, snow man, windmill, some crazy dive, split save dues, neo split save rave, shin split save, and the famous "omg let me mishandle the puck and so I can go out of my way to make a " split save.
Speaking of puck handling. Its funny irbe got a lot of shit for his puck handling. For good reason I guess. Back in the day. It was... well sub par to say. BUT if you watch irbe later in his career lets say take a cliche popular year like 2k2(really any of his later years)irbes puck handling was not bad at all. Yet he still got a lot of crap for it. One of those stigmas he never was able to get away from even when it wasnt true.
And on a nerd note, remember the old NHL games. NHL 95' and what not. Remember when the goalie use to randomly go crazy, started doing the splits and jiggling all over the screen. yea... thats not a bug. thats a irbe. He transends languages. He is neither noun, nor adjective, or verb. He is all. In everything. If you tell someone.. "thats a irbe".. Or "he irbed it" It should make perfect sense. Or remember wayne greztky hockey for some version maybe many of them(?), when the goalie does a split save, a wall flashes behind them for a sec....
