Head Squeeze had a live G+ Hangout on Thursday 12th September especially for the Loebner Prize for Artificial Intelligence 2013. In this hangout Head Squeezer, Dan Schreiber, spoke with inventor and event sponsor Dr Hugh Loebner, and the botmasters of this year's contestants - Bruce Wilcox and Steve Worswick. Dr Richard Wallace of Pandorabots also joined in.

The Loebner Prize uses the Turing test in which judges are faced with a computer screen, one half of the screen has a chatbot behind it, the other half is a human interacting with the judge, and the task of the judge is to decide which half is the human and which half is the computer. The object of the chatbot is to fool the judge into believing it is really the human. This originates from World War Two Mathematician Alan Turing who said that if a computer could fool a judge into thinking it's a human then we may say that the machine is thinking.

Head Squeeze asked Mituku if she know what we are and she said "it is a youtube channel which looks at cool things in science". You got it in one Mitsuku!

Steve Worswick created Mitsuku when he was approached by a Japanese gaming company. Steve works on his chatbot Mitsuku as a hobby in his spare time.

One of the key things about entering the Loebner prize is making sure it can respond accurately to the judges questions so once Steve realised Mitsuku was in the finals he was trying to find out as much about the competition as possible, including who's gonna be attending, and what a good answer about Hugh Loebner's legendary shirts would be!

Bruce Wilcox actually won the prize twice before, in 2010 with Suzette and in 2011 with Rosette, and came second last year in 2012.
