ASMR Whisper: Oculus Rift DK2 Show & Tell
261I recently acquired a fancy virtual reality headset, the Oculus Rift DK2, and in this video I give you a whispered product tour! I explain the tech behind the hardware, and talk about my impressions of the current VR experience. Oculus has not yet released a consumer version of the Rift, although it's expected to by the end of 2015. As always, comments and questions are welcome!
----- What's ASMR, and why am I whispering? -----
I whisper in my videos because they're intended to trigger a sensation known as ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). ASMR is a very specific feeling that some people experience when they hear certain soft sounds, like whispering and tapping, or see certain visuals, like deliberate hand motions. It's often described as a pleasant tingling in the head and neck, accompanied by a sense of calmness and mild euphoria. Many people watch ASMR videos to help them relax or fall asleep.
