Assassin’s Creed: Shadows releases on February 14, 2025, for multiple platforms
The game is set in 16th century Japan, featuring samurai-inspired combat
Ubisoft delayed the release to refine gameplay and ensure quality across all platforms
Assassin's Creed Shadows will offer players a "canon mode" for those who don't like branching dialogue options.
Assassin's Creed is an RPG series now, whether we like it or not. It's been heading in that direction for the past few entries, and even though Assassin's Creed Shadows looks like its bringing back a lot of elements from older games, it's still going to be an RPG along the same lines as Odyssey and Valhalla.
Creative director Jonathan Dumont was asked by a fan on Reddit how much weight player choices have in Assassin's Creed Shadows. "Choices come more into play when recruiting allies and romancing some of the characters," Dumont said, before revealing the ability to remove these choices altogether.
This mode will make choices for you throughout the game, though you will still be able to pick which allies you recruit and who you romance.
"Since the fanbase is divided on branching dialogues, we have incorporated an option called Canon Mode which allows you to play the game with choices already made for you, to give you a choice free experience," he added. "Hope this makes it fun for everyone."
