There was a huge sale on Steam this summer, so I had the chance to pick up a few new titles after a heavy discount. One of them was Assassin's Creed: Syndicate.

I have been a fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise since the first game came out almost ten years ago. I enjoyed the parkour modeling, detailed historical settings, and combat. The jump from the first game in the series to the second seemed tremendous with all the changes brought to combat, upgrades, and character dialogue. Jumping back and forth from the past to the compelling present-day story line kept my interest in what the Assassins would uncover in the modern world.

However, after the literary plot hole opened in Assassin's Creed 3, the present-day story line hasn't been as interesting. Nonetheless, Assassin's Creed still delivers on detailed historical settings and interesting game play, which is why I've played through almost every title released on the PC.

Syndicate sticks true to a detailed world set in history, and the character dialogue is much more interesting than it was in Unity. Additionally, I didn't find that the multiplayer component interfered with my game play as much as Unity did. However, the present day story arc is still one-dimensional and reduced to cutscenes. I wonder if we will ever get a playable present day Assassin like Desmond again.
