The PolarSys Eclipse Working Group has recently started an initiative for assessing and improving the quality of Eclipse projects. The Maturity Assessment task force has since then identified a set of quality requirements, designed a quality model encompassing all aspects of quality in the context of Eclipse projects, from product maintainability to community activity, and established ways to measure it.

The PolarSys quality model provides a generic, fully-featured and automated framework that leverages the new Eclipse Dashboard and covers various aspects of projects: product, process, and community. Metrics are retrieved from the new Eclipse Dashboard, the Common Project Infrastructure (CPI), Hudson, and SonarQube.

In this talk we will present the PolarSys Quality Model and the associated framework, from quality definition and requirements to the metrics used in the assessment. We will also present the implementation of this measurement and analysis process on a sample project and show how it can be efficiently used to improve overall project quality.
