The Astroneer alpha has arrived with the December 2017 Astroneer Research Update, bringing us up to Astroneer 0.5 and promising monthly content from now on.

We take a look at the all-new main gameplay loop in this Let's Play Astroneer Research Update gameplay video, centred around the fact you no longer earn random new techs for each researchable you find. This system is known as Research 2.0 - or Research 2.1, depending on what you read!

Astroneer Research Update gameplay now gives you a research catalogue, from which you find new technologies to research, each with their own cost (known as bytes). Researchables now sit in the new research module and, provided you supply it with a constant flow of power, slowly accumulate bytes towards your chosen research.

Also in this Let's play Astroneer Research Update gameplay video, we see a few other changes to the game, including a new look for various harvestable ores etc, hot new tutorial action and more.
