Atari Anthology - PS2 - Dodge 'Em
Gameplay from Dodge 'Em. Includes my best scores, playing on all three variations.
This came out in 1980. It's an overhead driving game, where you steer a car around a maze collecting dots, while avoiding an opponent car.
I think this would be a good two player game, but the one player mode is brutal. A game like this requires fast, split second timing, but the controls aren't responsive at all. In fact, you need to hold down the direction you want in advance of the turn. Of course, the CPU opponent has absolutely no trouble making instant turns and will crash into you with surgical precision.
I did work out a pattern which let me clear the first board at almost every attempt, on easy, but that just turns this into a memory game where you have to learn patterns, rather than the twitch reaction game it probably should have been.
If you can clear two rounds consecutively without losing a life, which I never managed, two cars appear, at which point, I imagine it's pretty much over.
