In all serious, this has a pretty large number of applications for things like activating HMs since any object in the game world can have reaction code attached to it (it's how you would use stuff like Cut or Rock Smash). Different objects can react differently to different moves, or different types of moves (an NPC could say "you burned me!" if you use a Fire move on it, or "that's cold!" if you use an Ice move on it). It's even (theoretically) possible to gauge how strong a Pokémon's attack is, like a high striker game at a carnival.
