Augmented Reality Eclipse 2015 Viewing thru Zeiss VR One AR App Samsung S5 QHD
0A few seconds from my 2hr observation of the 20.3.15 eclipse. Using the Augmented Reality AR app of Zeiss VR One .
Viewed on a phone you are susceptible to direct sunlight , when placed into a FOV2GO HMD like Zeiss VR One .. you are protected .. you view a digital image .. here I use the Zeiss AR App to generate the side by side image necessary .. ideally you would if someone hadn't stolen yours .. use a filter on the outside of VR ONE.. (infact I posted this one day late to make sure you do not try this without an eclipse viewer.. 11 years from now when the next one occurs .. you will be prepared and all AR HMDs will come with solar eclipse protection) .. in this case the actual eclipse is reflected into the image VR One .. where my finger points..as the sun itself is just too bright .. even with 90 % coverage by the Moon.. The real kick is when we start to include AR augments to study phenomena like this .. in a way pinhole and other cameras cannot allow .. I have used this type of solar viewing using HMDs to avoid eye damage and film in bright sunlight , before at 1 Infinite Loop Cupertino ...here https://youtu.be/_FR3NSCdyXs placing my orders for solar filters now to test augmented reality stellar observation.. more to follow.. do not try this at home .. if you are NASA or on the International Space Station you should be thinking of the possibilities of AR HMD use for planetary , stellar and UFO observation..and Zeiss could build UV and other light filters for the Zeiss VR One, not to mention Samsung and Apple for Phone cameras .. yeah JC ..got there before you again ! ..
The S5 I use here is a physical 2560 by 1440p panel with the optics of the VR ONE you can actually discern that reflection is the eclipse , this capture tho is a 1080p one .. On Rift , or Gear VR you would see screen door and other issues ....also the pass thru on Gear VR is as they say in The Royal Society ,.,,pants .,. the pass thru on VR One actually uses far higher res on the S5 and allows this type of AR use..
