Austroraptor is the only known species of the extinct genus Austroraptor ("southern thief")1 of dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur, which lived at the end of the Cretaceous period, approximately 71 to 70 million years ago, between the Campanian and Maastrichtian, in what is today South America. Austroraptor was a bipedal hunting dinosaur of medium proportions, which could grow up to 6.2 meters in length and with 340 kilograms of body weight. Its size makes Austroraptor one of the largest dromaeosaurids known, with only Achillobator, Dakotaraptor and Utahraptor coming close in size, being the largest to be discovered in the Southern Hemisphere. Something particularly notable about the taxon were the relatively short forearms, of a much smaller proportion, compared to most members of its group.
