Auto News For the Week of August 19, 2016

Pebble Beach

Singer Vehicle Design is showing two new examples of their works of art and eight of their restorations will be running around Monterey this weekend. Check out their Instagram. If you like 911s, it’ll get you right in the feels.

McLaren 570GT MSO personalization.

The Bugatti Chiron will be on display and is selling at a record pace, over 200 have been sold already.

Cadillac is showing the Escala concept. Its significance is that it representative of the brand's future design language. However, its said to be powered by a twin turbo V8 which leads to speculation that this engine might be headed to the Corvette and even the GTLM factory race cars so that they can get the turbo V8 they’re looking for. Things that make you go hmm.

All sorts of other ostentatious motoring displays are happening in Monterey so watch your social feeds. It’ll be eye candy out there, kids.

Not to be outdone, on the other side of the US, the Woodward Dream Cruise is going on in Motown where you’ll find things like the new Dodge Challenger T/A and Charger Daytona.

In Autonomous driving news, Ford announced they’ll have commercially available self driving cars by 2021, which seems to be the common target for many auto makers.

In an announcement that’s even more interesting, Uber and Volvo said they’ll have autonomous cars running around Pittsburgh, yes Pittsburgh, not in five years, not next year. No, THIS MONTH. We’re going to have to check it out.

Honda showed images of the new Civic Hatchback. The new Civic is brilliant and the fifth door will make it even more useful and interesting. However, what’s got me all excited is that Honda’s said that this five door will be what the new Si or SiR will be based on. I can’t wait.

In news out of Europe, rumour is that Aston Martin is testing DB11s with the four litre twin turbo V8 AMG motor and that the new Bentley Continental is rumoured to be shown at the upcoming Paris motor show.

In truck news that’s near and dear to my heart, the Nissan Titan gets the best warranty! Five years or 160,000 kilometres. Not that it really need it. The one I’ve been driving from Guelph and Waterloo Nissan all year has been perfectly flawless.
