Just yesterday we told you that James Cameron had brought on board Terminator series scribe, Josh Friedman to write the script for Avatar 2, and today we have new developments on the Avatar front that we have to fill you in on. Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox is not only planning the sequel, but we can already expect an Avatar part three and part four. And get this, Josh Friedman isn't the only screenwriter involved. Fox has hired three high level screenwriters and they will be working like crazy to get these scripts done so that all three movies (that's Avatar 2, 3 and 4) can be shot at the same time. I'm already tired for the cast and crew just thinking about this. These writing teams will include, of course, Terminator's Josh Friedman writing Avatar 2, Rise of the Planet of the Apes scribes Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver writing part 3, and Shane Salerno who worked with Cameron on his remake of Fantastic Voyage working on Avatar 4. Now, Cameron is said to be co-writing on all three scripts, and he'll be working with each writing team, separate from the others. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but an approach similar to this has been done before, and successfully so. Actually, Peter Jackson did something similar when he shot all three back to back Lord of The Rings films in one production. But the price tag on this Avatar project will likely be through the roof you guys. The original film cost a pretty penny, somewhere in the 2-300 million dollar range, but production costs for 3 movies could be somewhere in the billion dollar range. Yes, I'm getting light headed thinking about a billion dollar movie budget! But when you consider that the original Avatar made about 2.8 billion, multiply something similar to that times three, you're talking about potentially making some serious money. Deadline is also reporting that production will begin in the beginning of 2014 and we can then expect Avatar 2 to hit theaters in December 2016, with the third movie to hit in December of 2017, with Avatar 4 releasing one year after that. On the upcoming films, Cameron had this to say "Building upon the world we created with Avatar has been a rare and incredibly rewarding experience. In writing the new films, I've come to realize that Avatar's world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen. And to help me continue to expand this universe, I'm pleased to bring aboard Amanda, Rick, Shane and Josh — all writers I've long admired -- to join me in completing the films screenplays." So, Avatar fans, it is definitely happening and in a big way, but I have to ask how you all feel about Cameron's decision to shoot 3 more movies simultaneously. Do you think that the cast will be up for this kind of challenge? Hit the comments and let us know. And if you want to see more videos, just like this one, please subscribe to our channel.
