23Avenging Spirit (known in Japan as Phantasm) is a 1991 platformer arcade game developed and published by Jaleco. During a walk with his girlfriend, the main character is ambushed by unknown enemies who take his girlfriend away and shoot him to death. Now, as a wandering spirit with the ability to soul possess others, he is summoned by his girlfriend's father and is given a mission to save her from the mysterious crime syndicate that holds her hostage. As it turns out, the crime syndicate is also researching ghost energy, and they kidnapped the girl in an effort to force her father to cooperate with them.
When the player is in ghost form, there is an enerygy meter that runs out., when the player possesses an enemy that energy meter stops, until the player gets hit and turns into ghost form again. The player must fight through 6 stages to infiltrate the evil syndicate's base. Players can attack or possess enemies, collect power-ups, and defeat bosses to advance. Up to 2 players.
