Awaken Realms did this with other campaigns as well such as the new deluxe Puerto Rico campaign.
Ravensburger has instructed Awaken Realms to not use AI art for any part of the art process and Awaken Realms confirmed there will not be any AI art in the final game.
This specific wording leaves a lot open for other games and for the overall process and for things beyond just art.
