Seventh episode of the Darkest dungeon 2 series. We have an awful run...

Please give me any advice if I am doing anything wrong. The Stress + relationship mechanic in this game to me right now feels terrible - in this run I felt like I had no chance to lower stress, it just ticks up so fast. Maybe I should be avoiding combat early in the future?
