Baba Yaga - Are you here on your own errand, or another's?
12My Sitting for Psychonauts students were chatting in the group chat, about why they enrolled in the course. It reminded me about an old story I heard told by Tara Brach about an old witch called Baba Yaga. I'm a fan of old witches, and I was told Baba Yaga stories from the time I was a child. To be honest, I debated telling the story, because it just dawned on me that it's features an old anti-semitic trope called blood libel, which basically asserts that jews eat gentile children. I recently became more familiar with it as I poked around some of the Q-anon stuff that was going around last summer. It's resurfaced as hollywood elites eating children and drinking their adrenachrome. (Id' like to note that nobody has ever come to integration circle to talk about adrenochrome). But it's the same old hateful story retold, over and over. Ultimately, I figured that I'd tell it, because I still really like the story, and also, I felt like it would be cool to shine a light on how propaganda and hate manages to wiggle its way into our culture. But beyond that, let it be a meditation on how your intentions are formed, and how you relate to mystery and the unknown. That's what we're really talking about here.
