Following the success of the first movie, Back to the Future Part II was almost immediately greenlit alongside Back to the Future Part III. The third installment and this movie were both shot concurrently. The “TO BE CONTINUED” title at the end of part one was added without the knowledge of the actors. Apparently Michael J. Fox even called his agent to make sure he would be back for the sequel. The film takes place almost immediately after part one with Doc, Marty, and Jennifer going to the distant year of 2015 to save Marty’s son from trouble with the law.
