We finally interact with water for a while, which is awful because adjusting the brightness to see anything in the regular areas leaves you practically blind underwater. Classic 90's PC gaming problems. On the plus side, we also got our hands on the iconic Shock Rifle and incorrectly named Eightball Launcher, so that's a nice upgrade to the arsenal.

Unreal was released by Epic Games in 1998, after years of development that gave rise to one of the most important games in video game history. The Unreal Engine developed for this game has continued to have successors that are at the core of so many modern video games that the engine has become more famous than its origin. While Unreal has sometimes been lost in the shuffle of 1998's legendary historical game releases, it may well have actually been the most important release of that year.
