Animate Dead is a great spell to help you out with all the speed casters. Skeletons have magic resistance and are also immune to a load of negative spell effects. They can tank all the mage spells are your main party can stroll in behind them once it is safe to do so.
Also they are immune to the Winter Wolves ranged attack.
