The final game in the trilogy! Banner Saga 2 was a big improvement over the original game- BS3 doesn't change things so drastically. The level cap is raised to 15, which is high enough that a lv15 unit will cap all their stats and all their talents. Characters that were below level 8 are automatically leveled to 8- this is very generous, even a lot of units we were actively using didn't get that high. If a character didn't make it to 6 to choose a skill, a skill has been automatically assigned to them- they usually get given the weaker skill, so this is incentive to train them in bs2.

Character progression is mainly done by the 'Heroic Title' system. There is a small pool of Heroic Titles that you can assign to any lv10+ unit you like. These titles are completely unique and cannot be swapped out once assigned; if you give Death's Messenger to Rook, you cannot give it to anyone else- even a character that isn't in Rook's caravan- or give Rook a different title. Titles cost a small amount of renown to assign and you can increase the strength of their effects by spending further renown. The full list of titles and effects can be found on the wiki. A lot of these are simply +stat boosts. One of the lessons of BS1 is that small stat advantages have big effects, so these titles are best put on varl who already have high stats- enemies in BS3 have really high stats and human characters struggle to keep up, even with titles. For now I give Hakon 'the Unmoved' title. There are two titles that are more interesting- Bloodletter and Death's Messenger- and I'll cover those when I assign them.

The team in this video will be my long-term A-team for Rook's caravan. Hogun continues his role as Shield Wall tank. Hakon and Gunnulf are the highest-strength characters in the caravan and have kept up well with enemy stat inflation. Rook and Canary have great stats for ranged units and very useful specials for turn control. Yrsa is being babied for a reason- you'll see why shortly, but for now I need to get her enough kills to get her from lv8 to heroic titles.

The map itself is nothing special and much easier than the last few maps of BS2. If you side with Rugga you get a more interesting map where your objective is to simply move a unit to the gates.
