Banner Saga: Pursuing the Dredge with solo Yrsa (Hard/No Injuries)
One thing about Banner Saga's weird turn order is that lowmanning is disproportionately powerful. If you bring along a crappy unit, they're not contributing much and they make it so your other better units get fewer turns. I'll always run max deployment in this run but I don't think this is the 'optimal' way to play- in fact, I'd argue that running solo archer is better.
I only ever fought one second wave in chapter 3 with my real team and even that was a dangerous shitshow where Yrsa easily could've died. In this map, solo Yrsa and is able to comfortably handle a second wave with no support. You get Yrsa before the first War of chapter 3 and you can feed her kills in the Training Tent to get her leveled- all you really need is 3 break, her other stats are always horrible and only give you a little insurance against getting one-shot. It's maybe a little more difficult than doing the first waves normally but second waves are vastly more approachable when you only have one unit to worry about getting ambushed. It's also good if you want to create a high-renown save file for BS2- you can go through the entire chapter getting more renown than usual and only spending renown on Yrsa.
Soloing isn't the best choice for the entire series because there are maps with forced deployment- lugging a liability around is worse when it's 1/2 of your turns than when it's 1/6th, and you can't just kill off the liability because that will take you into pillage mode. Chapter 3 has no forced deployment though, and you never have to use any of these units again- they all just roll into the Skogr caravan- so, why not? Why shouldn't Yrsa take all the XP?
