17By this point in the game you're going to want to increase your priority on defending yourself against the various different types of attack. The siege is one of the more common attacks that people tend to struggle against.
These days I think it's less practical than it used to be to fully dig into a mountain to live in there. Once you start reaching 15 or so people, the energy cost to grow crops becomes unmanageable using only geothermal, and there are types of attacks that absolutely require you to leave your mountain stronghold. It's also beneficial to use mortars for defence which requires you leaving your mountain base.
