Batman : The Killing Joke Movie Review | Moviefile
The comic book landscape has seen an evolution in entertainment, to say the least. What many thought would be a rise and fall like in the early 90s and early 2000s has stuck true, resulting in comic media populating all forms of media. And while Marvel is beating DC by a country mile on film, and both companies seem to be neck and neck in terms of traditional television/TV on demand, there is one avenue of media that DC has had the leg up on the House of Ideas. And that's in their animated universe. While Marvel has only in recent years tried its hand at expanding its animated universe in a similar vein as its own cinematic universe, DC has fleshed out an entire multitude of animated universes dating all the way back to Bruce Timm's Adventures of Batman and Robin.
And from that universe, Timm has also amassed a library of highly acclaimed feature films. From the tent pole of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, to more recent spin-off movies such as Assault on Arkham, DC has set the standard for animated comic book movies. Recently though, DC has started to adapt its own comic creations, reflecting its own New 52 universe. Most recently they received major acclaim for their adaptation of Flashpoint, in The Flashpoint Paradox, a major DC story arc that has even seen shades within the DC TV universe, as shown in the third season of the The Flash. This has lead to DC trying to adapt more and more iconic story arcs into its now cemented DC Animated Universe. And in 2016, DC released their long over-due adaptation of a story arc many though to be un-adaptable: 1988's The Killing Joke by Alan Moore.
