I've covered Batman: The Movie for most of the major 16-bit and 8-bit platforms now, and while the Amiga version remains my favourite, I've got to admit that the Amstrad CPC conversion comes a close second. It might lack the smooth scrolling and SID music of the C64 version, and it might chug a little compared to the Spectrum, the graphics of the CPC port are definitely the best of the bunch.

While the presentation is great, the gameplay is equally polished. The platforming sections are executed extremely well, with Batman using his grappling hook to navigate various platforms in search of Jack Napier/Joker, and hurling batarangs at gun-toting goons patrolling the various walkways. The Batmobile and Batwing sections are also really good, lacking the horrific slowdown and laggy controls which seem to plague many CPC games.

Ocean came in for some stick with the "mini game" format for many of its movie licenses, but Batman definitely bucks the trend. The platforming and driving/flying sections work within the context of the film's plot, but are also executed well. I don't think there was any point where I wasn't impressed with the game.
