First clear on Batsugun Special ver. and my first ever Toaplan clear!!
Batsugun is a shmup by Toaplan in 1993 for arcades.
This was the last shmup by Toaplan before the company went bankrup, causing most of it´s employees to move to work at CAVE with Tsuneki Ikeda.
This game features a RPG-like level up system where your shot increases in power as you shoot down enemies and gain experience points.
You progress trough the game surviving through 5 stages.
There´s 3 ships in this game an unique shot type:
Type-A (Jeeno/Schneider): Megaway shot
Type-B (Beltiana/Alteeno): Thunder spark laser
Type-C (Iceman/Olisis): Spread wave
Type-B (Beltiana/Alteeno) has a nice shot type with powerful strength.
About Special version:
Batsugun Special Version was shown at the Amusement Machine Operators' Union (AOU) show in 1994 but was never released due to Toaplan's bankruptcy.
The Special Version did eventually find its way onto the secondary market. It is prototypical of later CAVE games and arrange modes. It features 4 loops which increase in difficulty with faster and a high number of bullets, ship hitboxes are smaller, bombs are better at clearing the screen (having the same effect as both players bombing simultaneously in the original version, you get a one hit shield every time you level up, and the scoring is different.
The Sega Saturn version of Batsugun was released in 1996 by Gazelle (the company behind Aku Gallet) and Banpresto, featuring a unique arrange soundtrack and it also includes both Original and Special versions.
