Having rather recently discovered Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call (a bit late, I know, but for whatever reason I wasn't in the mind to play it when it first came out so many years ago), I realised it's an amazing game for when you really just want to grind. You can clear maps and unlock new ones ad nauseum (with one-in-thousands odds of getting a particularly rare map like the Nostalgic ones), collect shards to unlock new characters, gather scrolls to teach your characters skills they need (most notably, Exp Hound on everything that moves), and keep abusing the missing DLC exploit to get dozens of copies of premium cards to ram your characters' stat caps - that's how I got Terra, Cloud, Noel, Cid and Rydia to 999 strength, for instance. This game is a grinder's dream, and if I weren't something of a compulsive grinder, this channel probably wouldn't exist, as so many of my challenges feed and appeal to these tendencies in addition to contrasting, hyperactivity-inducing, ones.

The RPG elements in this game are, very arguably, lacking, but what you can do is enjoy the great number of tracks (over 220 and many more if you install all the DLC) from the Final Fantasy series, which evokes some of the brightest memories of my life, and moving on to Ultimate difficulty seems like a sensible choice at some point, seeing how all Expert stages are generally very easy, and you can feel this as soon as you start as a complete beginner.

Some time ago, I polled my channel's visitors for their favourite FF theme from a list of five, promising to Perfect Chain (complete without a single Bad or Miss hit) the winner(-s). Battle at the Big Bridge won with 40% votes, followed by One-Winged Angel and Dancing Mad. The Man with a Machine Gun and Fight With Seymour didn't get very many votes; perhaps, the tracks I thought the most desirable aren't seen as such by others (it can be hard to tell).

Anyway, I'm happy that Battle at the Big Bridge won, as it's much shorter than its competitors for first place. Having done more than 60 attempts before I was able to complete the song without a single whiff, I learnt to appreciate its brevity. I started by failing the song entirely a couple times before I got used to its general feel and learnt not to panic every time something went wrong (it's easy to just give up after a single series of misses, and it's hard to focus again).

I found many parts of the song overwhelming, especially the quick ones featuring lots of slide / arrow bits, and also ones that alternate slides with other types of movements. I noticed two points being big gamebreakers for me, leading to failure a good 90% of the time. Since I was recording myself all the time hoping I would get it done, I studied the parts where I was failing non-stop and wrote down the commands. Not only did this make it evident that these two parts were the same, it was easy to see a pattern in the input (touch touch left touch tough right 4x touch left etc.), and the awareness of the pattern enabled me to understand what was going on and adapt accordingly. After writing down the problematic moments, I actually started clearing the two gamebreaking sections with great consistency on my second or so try, just needing greater focus to get the rest of the song right too. I'm not sure if this is what rhythm game players are known to do; besides rhythm minigames in Kingdom Hearts and the like, I don't think I've ever played a rhythm game before this one.

The number of attempts made it a good idea to level up a bunch of characters. Some of my characters, like Garnet here, haven't reached lv. 99 yet, while others, like Chaos, need to be levelled down to lv. 1 to increase the CP cap each time. My only characters at * level are Cosmos, Cid and Rydia as of yet, with Terra only being at 6-stars but enjoying 99 CP thanks to Mover cards I'd saved up.

Inspired by my success with Gilgamesh's battle theme, I'll be moving on to One-Winged Angel some time later, and after that I'll either do the same with Dancing Mad or post another poll with classic FF tracks to be picked.

If anyone has any requests about this game's content or any of its aspects being featured in a future upload, feel free to drop me a comment about it. I'm sure I'll be coming back to it off and on for a long time.

Well, this is my first upload in 2022 (the year of my 15 year anniversary on YouTube). Wishing everybody a great New Year, and hope to stay active with uploads despite whatever happens to be troubling me IRL.
