Battleship in 3:52 - Mattel Electronic Hand-Held
Battleship Electronic Hand-Held completed in 3:52 on game 3, skill level 3, with a high score of 67 points. Both are world records as far as I know, and much better than all other attempts in my 2-hour session with this game.
Game level determines the conditions for when players change turns. Game level 3 allows each player a number of shots equal to how many ships they have remaining.
Skill level determines the difficulty of the computer. The computer seems to fire randomly on skill levels 1 and 2, but on skill level 3, the computer randomly selects points to fire on diagonal lines which are always spaced 4 units apart vertically and horizontally. Therefore, if the player properly places their destroyer, submarine, and patrol boat, they can completely avoid the computer's attack pattern.
Time begins after confirming ship layout, and ends the first frame "PLYR WINS" begins to fade in. Scoring rules are shown at 4:30 in the video.
