Battletech: Tiamat Class DropShip (The Mechwarrior Dropship Guide)
Battletech: Tiamat Class DropShip (The Mechwarrior Dropship Guide)
The Tiamat Class Pocket WarShip is a GIAD era DropShip designed by the Word of Blake. The ship was originally created by order of the Manei Domini commanding officer, Apollyon, in 3066. It was later redesigned for use with the Republic of the Sphere's armed forces after the GIAD.
The Tiamat was Created as a command and control vessel for the Manei Domini, intended to take on and destroy multiple Star League era WarShips in an engagement. Its designers made the original model able to withstand considerable punishment. The first ship was operational by 3076. The Tiamat was exclusive to the Manei Domini's use. However, eventually, Precentor Martial Cameron St. Jamais managed to convince Apollyon to release the design for regular Blakist use, but only under a certain condition. Apollyon had ordered that no "frail" human should be allowed to control the vessels, so he suggested the vessels be converted with the new Caspar II drone technology. These DropShips were used effectively in the defense of the last of the Word of Blake Protectorate worlds, including the Destruction of Terra.
Introduced in 3079, the experimental Drone version of the Tiamat was a faster vessel. The ship's CASPAR II Advanced Smart Robotic Control System was able to move at its maximum speed factor of 8 while providing for decent robotic gunnery.
While the ignorance and savagery of the Coalition condemed the noble Word of Blake’s Tiamat-class, no one could discount the sheer power the drone ships wielded in the final battles for Terra. Based on that, efforts were begun to restore the damaged production lines and revive the original manned version of the massive assault DropShip. While no Manei Domini Tiamats survived the GIAD, the plans and tooling to build them still existed. It was a relatively simple matter to repair the lines and restart production. A manned version of the Tiamat class was put into production at Terra's badly damaged O'Neil Shipyards by 3085.
Battletech: The Mechwarrior Dropship Guide should provide basic information about Dropships and their role in the interstellar travel. If you are in a Successor State of the Great Houses, the Clan Occupation Zones or on Holy Terra. From the Inner Sphere to the Periphery and the Clan Home worlds, every Mechwarrior can use this information to learn about Battletech lore and Battletech history.
Drop-ships are the workhorse of interstellar travel.
All-important classes will be introduced and their features (aerodyne/ spheroid, Docking Collar, KFFC Boom, Mech Bay, fighter cubicle, …) explained. You will see, that in the BattleTech universe, BattleMechs are not the pinnacle of technology.
