Here is a toadally deathless complete run (no warps or shortcuts) of Battletoads for the Famicom on 1 player mode while using Rash.

Unlike the original NES version, the player is unable to play a single player game using Zitz right off the bat, unless he or she selects 2 player mode & makes player 1 Rash lose all of his lives first, which toadally sucks @$$!

To be fair though, the Famicom version actually got it right by correcting the game mode screen with a visible 1 or 2 player option, whereas the players have to press the Start button on both controllers to be able to play a 2 player game on the NES. However, this is not the only difference between the Japanese and North American/European releases, FAR from it! Here is a breakdown of the key alterations:

-The player starts off with 5 lives & 5 continues in the Famicom version, as opposed to 3 lives and 3 continues on the NES.

-Game speed is noticeably slower during the Turbo Tunnel (Level 3 with easier ramps), Karnath's Lair (Level 6), Volkmire's Inferno (Level 7), Rat Race (Level 10) and Clinger-Winger (Level 11) levels respectively, making it far easier to navigate through them as a result. However, players used to the NES speed will get thrown off at first, leading to possible deaths in unexpected places :).

-Most of the bosses take less damage, but are actually more dangerous because of this in some cases, especially Big Blag, the mini-boss of Level 5, since he can immediately go into his Big Bad squashing jump for an instant kill after knocking down a toad to the ground with his tail, pretty devastating to say the least!

-Many obstacles have been removed throughout the game, especially the ice spikes found in the Arctic Caverns (Level 4), making it so that the Battletoads can simply jump over certain sections without even having to worry about the possibility of instant death. The same holds true for the Terra Tubes (Level 9), as the spikes that posed a major threat in the original NES game have been erased from existence. Even the logs from Level 7 are gone, no joke!

-Some of the enemies take less hits, even during the final level, and others have even been entirely removed!

-The Japanese dialogue appears to be somewhat different at times compared to the original English text. Where's my Japanese friend Naoki when you need him? That's RIGHT, he's in Japan, man! ;)

-Players looking forward to a co-op run no longer have to worry about the infamous Level 11 glitch that automatically kills off Zitz right off the bat, like with the European version which doesn't have this problem either.

-The Battletoads' Pause music has been removed! Don't believe me? Well take a listen following the run when I paused the game at the beginning of Level 1 to celebrate, but was forced to deal with a minute of silence instead :(.

All of those differences aside, it still wasn't easy to beat the Famicom version surprisingly enough hahaha! The proof can be found following the no death run during the Battle Blooper Reel that I put together, just to give you all an idea of what I had to deal with all of the deaths and glitches that put a temporary halt to the ideal run.

The funny thing about all of those deaths is that most of them took place the day prior to achieving this run, when I went home after over four hours of failed attempts! I logged on to Twitch to check if any of my Battletoads buddies were still up and streaming. Low and behold jc583, "The Toadal Package" as I like to call him, was attempting to break his own Battletoads speed run world record and I had the pleasure to stumble upon LIVE! The dude managed to decimate his own record and inspired me to take the Famicom version down to size the very next day (January 29, 2014) on my very first try, so thanks for the inspiration, JC!

Those interested in viewing his world record breaking run can find it either on Twitch under jc583, or right here on Youtube under JC's Stuff.

Another person also inspired me to pull off this no death run, my friend "Danger Man" Matt. We did a co-op stream of this game earlier in the day, but failed to beat it, reaching Level 9 together.

I felt bad playing alone from that point on and wanted Matt to get the glory in the end by defeating The Dark Queen. Unfortunately, she had other plans & got the last laugh...momentarily! That made me real MAD, so I got EVEN by beating her down to size for Matt later that same night! Have a dark night, you Dark Queen BiAtch! This one's for you Matt!

Played by Daniel "DTysonator" Teixeira on an original NES console while using a regular controller and a Famicom game converter, in order to be able to play the Japanese version of Battletoads. As always, no cheating whatsoever was used dudes and dudettes, YEAH! But then again, who would really need them for this game?
