Stam Fine looks at three times the BBC depicted a post-apocalyptic world. Survivors (1975-77) follows the survivors of a deadly virus, Day of the Triffids (1981) shows what happens when killer plants take over, and The Tripods (1984-85) is set in the future, decades after the end, when Earth is under the control of creatures who get about in giant three-legged machines called, funnily enough, Tripods.
