Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a 2017 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. A major instalment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 7 diverges from the more action-oriented Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, returning to the franchise's survival horror roots, emphasizing exploration.
The game is set in 2017, approximately 4 years after the events of Resident Evil 6 in the fictional city of Dulvey, Louisiana. It features a new protagonist named Ethan Winters, a civilian who offers fewer combat skills than most previous Resident Evil protagonists. Ethan is searching for his missing wife, Mia, which leads him to a derelict plantation mansion, home of the Baker family. The game starts with a series of video's from Ethan Winters' late wife Mia. The videos range from pleasant exchanges turning toward dark sinister warnings. The final video, reveals that Mia is in fact very much alive and was presumed dead three years ago. Mia actively pleads with her husband that she is sorry for her lies and that he must "stay away". Ethan, naturally ignores the warning and travels to Louisiana. This eventually leads him to the heart of the backwater of Louisiana to a large planation owned by the mysterious Baker family.
