Lesson 5 – Counterattacks & feints

Counterattacks
• Combination of defense & attack
o Mastery of defense first
 Counter from the strong of the blade, and within good measure
 Quick counter to target zones
• May have better opportunity to strike opponents arm/hand
 Not as wide a sweep as a starting attack
o Be able to counter to multiple points from any single defense
o Also be ready to defend from any blocked attack
o Quick retreats & advances can allow opponent to miss, leaving an opening for attack

Feints
• Quick false lead
o Trick opponent into defending where you won’t attack
o Still commit to your actual attack
Demonstrate: at least two counters per defense, and two feints.
