Which rechargeable battery is truly the best for your power-hungry FPGA Game Boy? With the release of the AA-powered ModRetro Chromatic, the old question of battery life has a new contender. Is it the old standby, Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), or the newcomer with a higher voltage, Nickel-Zinc (Ni-Zn)? Sci-Gold sent me some batteries to test and find out

Update: Test: How Much Power Does an EverDrive GB X7 REALLY Drain? -    • Test: How Much Power Does an EverDrive GB ...

I'm putting them to the test with some real science! In this video, I run a data-driven, head-to-head-to-head battery drain test using the ModRetro Chromatic, the Analogue Pocket, and the FunnyPlaying FPGBC, all running Tetris DX at full brightness. We'll test generic Ni-MH batteries against the new SciGold Ni-MH and Ni-Zn rechargeable AAs to see who is the true champion of longevity.

Plus, I'll explore why the higher voltage of Ni-Zn batteries makes them the secret weapon for other retro tech, like your old Walkman cassette player! If you love reproducible empirical data and retro handhelds, this one's for you!
